There are three pillars to writing:

Technical skills and literary education. In simple terms, a good writer must understand stylistics, word forms, means of artistic expression and be able to apply all this competently in practice. In this will help literary education. The university will not endow talent, if it does not exist, but will help to develop it, to begin to properly formalize thoughts and images on paper. However, there are many talented self-taught writers who became really famous. But if without formal education is still sometimes possible to do without, then readability and love of literature – the necessary attributes of all without exception successful writers.

Life experience. No author, no matter how perfectly he writes, will not be able to deeply feel the topic and touch the reader if he is not versed in a particular field. Military, medical, love, criminal and any other life experience is an important prerequisite for a successful writer. For example, E. Hemingway and E. M. Remarque had rich military experience, and children’s doctor E. Komarovsky published his first book, having accumulated many years of experience as a doctor.

Organization and hard work. A person who writes only on inspiration is unlikely to become a good writer. “Genius only begins great works, and one labor finishes them” – said Joseph Joubert, and it is difficult to disagree with him. Writing is a daily labor that should be given a lot of time. As Henry Miller said, “Act according to a plan, not according to mood. Stop at the appointed time.” Neil Gaiman advises, “Always finish what you’ve already started, no matter what it takes.”
